I've had a 2017 Chevy Bolt for about 18 months. I love it although now I'm work from home and don't commute. Still, when I was it was $15 a month for fuel and the first scheduled maintenance is at 150K miles, so much cheaper than the ever increasing repair costs of an ICE. I like all EV owners, never going back to ICE. We do have a Forester for our road trip exploring since it can go anywhere compared to a low to the ground hatchback.

Could you do a video on EV drive trains and the possible future of them. The Aptera is using hub motors which are way simpler as they have no drive shafts or gears. Just a powered hub. I love the simplicity of the idea but I'm not able to find much basic information on their real world performance. I'm not sure why they are not more common as they seem like a slam dunk to me- I'm maybe missing something? Or perhaps they are too new on the scene for large vehicles and there isn't much info yet? I'm new to the subject of EV's and I appreciate your video on them.
9 саат мурунKirk Johnson
I'm dissapointed that you didn't mention the Aptera. Perhaps you didn't include it as it is not yet in production but is expected to roll the first ones out later this year. Maybe you could do a whole video on the Aptera? I think they are extremely interesting and rather unique in the EV world. For sure anyone interested in EV's would be interested in them I think.

I think the topic is misleading. Every year will be huge for electric cars, not just 2021. 2022, 2023, ... and so on. The electric car era just kicked off and there is no going back. Maybe billions of barrels of oil will stay underground forever.

The absence of sedans in the US market is really appalling to me. The auto industry has pushed SUVs too far, and this doesn't bode well for city life at all.

The electric car sounds good but they we will have dependence on electric. If we start driving millions on electric cars the electric grid system will have to be upgraded in parts of the country. Look at the parts of the country that are still without power now because of the storms. I understand electric is an alternative fuel source but it will probably cost billions to upgrade the existing electric grids which have not been upgraded for years and well as more underground power lines. What good is an electric car when there is a weak electric grid and we could be out of power for multiple days? You are stranded.
8 күн мурунMiguel lopez
It would require a 30% expansion for 250 million EVs, if these EVs had VTG you wouldn't have to worry as much as each car would be capable of back flowing into the grid and powering your home for a duration, tesla uses a proof of concept mega battery in Australia to prevent blackouts and brown outs all with huge savings, politicians in the US have gotten real good at making excuses not to upgrade our infrastructure such as, "it's too expensive" or "it cost too much" and my favorite "we dont have money for this!" When the wealthiest nation on earth fails to mend itself it will quickly become the second richest nation on earth, and you know who will take 1st? China, their electrical infastructure has rapidly expanded for a country with significantly less funding then our government. Power in Texas went out because people where using too much gas and there wasn't enough for the GAS powered plants, so it's not just gas infastructure, the Texas government management of its power failed and they blamed it on wind power.

They aren't more advanced, they are just cheaper to make so and they copy designs payed for by other companies, these companies can eventually outcompete US ones by doing it, this is a strategy they had for over 20 years and it's working for them.

I don’t get Cybertruck haters. If you want pick up truck, then you want rugged. Cybertruck’s body is literally the sturdy chassis, not some aluminium body that dents all over in few years and it’s lighter. It’s literally the only pick-up that has some innovation to it. All the other EV pick ups are literally just heavier pick ups with less range and aren’t no different from any modern pick up we had for decades.

@Csanad Barczy ok does ford make profit with their debt from 2009? Tesla sold 10 billion worth of stock last year, is that profit?
7 күн мурунCsanad Barczy
@Miguel lopez Tesla ownes about 6 billion dollars of debt. Last year was the first year they claimed about $900 million but if you off-set that mount against their debt, there is no profit. They survive on promissing rainbows and unicorns to the planet! And if you look at their car production only they can't cover their cost! That's not profit!
7 күн мурунMiguel lopez
@Csanad Barczy do I need crayons for this? The only reason tesla is in business is from profit made by their cars, they sell solar, battery storage, insurance, develop self driving systems, and charging network, these are things tesla is spending $$$ developing for further profits but haven't been completed to the point of generating predictable revenue.

I have no idea how long is going to take to create a good electric car? 1st I don't want to freeze in the winter because of the battery , 2 nd that battery is going empty in the winter so quick That u cannot be able to use radio to much and u cannot think to drive in the night...u need lights so you're battery is going to be empty very quickly. 3rd If you're out of electricity you're time to recharge is up to 8 hours in the winter more badly... Petrol cars 5 minutes.... If something is broken and u need to repair you're fkttt...to expensive...and u cannot repair at every service... 4th let's say everything what I mentioned is not a problem , and let's trying to analyze the range u can drive with a full battery . You cannot find cars under 30000 euro with what you are able to drive more than 600 km .... every Petrol car is going to drive 1000 km and refuel in 10 minutes...Soo... Why? When ? I will pay taxes and Money for something badly that a fukkn..horse.. Well never... I'm so sorry but are not all the people so Rich and not everyone is going to stay at home when the car is not able to work because of something broken... You cannot go to work, you cannot...etc. You're personal or private recharge station is going to be broken every month...if u use a public one u cannot find to many and you need to pay a lot for 1 kwatt....so I advise everyone to think a 100 time's before buying something that is going to making him insane and crazy everyday... Trust me you'll going to be crazy till the end. Well you n
9 күн мурунMiguel lopez
Battery only drains because it heats itself to maintain full power, if the battery gets cold it cant discharg as much energy so you get reduced capacity and power output, overall this is abut a 30% drain on a 75kwh battery. LEDs, radio, and computer all run on much less power then the battery and cabin heater. A tesla supercharger can still charge them to 80% in 25 minutes during the winter, these chargers are the most common network charging system in the Americas and are more reliable as well, price for these stations still usally put it below gas in terms of cost per mile. You seem to have a lot of bias in EVs feed by your lack of reaserch. Give me more hard hitting complaints.
